Nestled at the mouth of the Blackwood River, Augusta has some of the most pristine beaches in the world, which are perfect for fishing, diving, swimming, surfing and windsurfing. And within a short drive, you can visit world-class wineries, limestone caves and majestic karri forests.
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse - "Where Two Oceans Meet"
Travel to the south West tip of Australia to see the historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Built in 1895, the lighthouse gives panoramic views to St Alouarn Island, and between July and October, provides travellers with excellent whale watching. The facility is open every day between 9am and 4pm.
Old Water Wheel
The Old Water Wheel near the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse was originally built to drive a pump to provide local spring water to the houses of the light keepers. It is said to be one of the "most photographed" tourist attractions in WA.
Whale Watching
Each year from May through to October, the Southern Right and Humpback Whales can be seen off the coast of Augusta. Whale watching charters are available, and provide truly memorable encounters.
Feeding the Stingrays
Stingrays swim up and down the Blackwood river daily, scavenging for food. Very often, they come right into the shallows.
Caves
The limestone caves of the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park are among some of the finest in the world and are a "must see" for visitors. Four managed by the Augusta-Margaret River Tourist Association include Mammoth, Lake, Jewel and Moondyne.
Bush Walking
There are several local bush walks around Augusta. On request, guests are provided with maps outlining these.
Fishing
There are many great fishing spots in and around Augusta.
Surfing, Windsurfing
Then there's the thrill of windsurfing and surfing. The tranquil blackwood river is perfect for beginners, while Flinders Bay and Jay's Beach will challenge the experts!!
Diving
The reefy coastline around Augusta is an underwater wonderland for divers. Hamelin Bay also provides divers with the oportunity to explore the wreck trail. Underwater caves, ledges, numerous wrecks and fascinating marine life like crayfish, stingrays, dolphins and schools of fish.
Sailing / Canoeing
Hire a canoe and take advantage of the tranquil waters of the Blackwood River. Or perhaps a spot of sailing on the river is more your style.
